I came to ayothayaxad having tried to navigate the embassy requirements on my own and gotten completely lost. Within a week of contacting them they had a clear list of what I needed and had already begun coordinating with the British Embassy. The whole process took about three weeks from first contact to registration. I would not have managed it half as smoothly without their help.
Divorce proceedings are never pleasant, and I was grateful to have a lawyer who did not treat it as a routine transaction. The process took longer than I initially hoped — but I was warned about that from the beginning, so it was not a surprise. The documentation was thorough and explained well. I felt I understood what I was agreeing to.
We registered our marriage in Thailand and my Thai fiancée and I were both a bit nervous about the paperwork. Nattaporn was very calm and organised — she had worked with Germans before and knew exactly which documents the embassy would require. The prenuptial conversation was useful, too. We had not thought through the property implications properly.
My contested divorce matter was complicated — there were assets on both sides and the other party was difficult to work with. Siriporn handled it without drama, which was what I needed. She was straightforward about the timeline (it did take several months), the likely outcomes, and the fees. Nothing was added without discussion. I am relieved to have it concluded.
I was in Chiang Mai when I first made contact and they were happy to do everything by video until it was time to be in Bangkok for the actual district office appointment. That flexibility was really helpful. The uncontested divorce documentation came together quickly once we had established what my former husband and I had agreed on.
The Spanish Embassy requirements were not simple and they had dealt with it before. I did not have to explain anything twice. The prenuptial agreement process was handled with care — my partner and I were both able to review the Thai text with an English explanation before signing anything. We felt the process was ours, not just something happening to us.
Case Summaries
Three representative examples of how different matters have been handled. Identifying details have been changed.
UK National Marrying Thai Partner After Civil Partnership Abroad
A British client had a civil partnership registered in the UK and wished to register a Thai marriage with the same partner. There were questions about whether the UK affidavit would reflect the prior registration correctly and whether additional documentation would be required.
We contacted the British Embassy in Bangkok to clarify the documentation position and worked with the client to obtain the correct affidavit form. We also prepared a memorandum on Thai marital property implications and their interaction with existing UK arrangements.
Registration completed at a Bangkok district office within four weeks of initial contact. Both parties understood the documentation before and after signing. The client also opted to prepare a prenuptial agreement, which was registered simultaneously.
"They had dealt with the civil partnership question before, which saved us a lot of time. I would have been going back and forth to the embassy without them."
Thai National with Disputed Property and Child Arrangements
A Thai client sought to end a marriage where the other party contested both the division of property held jointly and the proposed child custody arrangement. The other party had retained separate counsel and was not willing to negotiate out of court.
We filed on available grounds under the Civil and Commercial Code, prepared a detailed evidence bundle on the property position, and supported two witnesses through preparation. We communicated clearly at each stage about likely court dates and probable outcomes, without making commitments we could not keep.
Proceedings concluded after approximately seven months. The court issued a divorce decree with a custody arrangement broadly in line with what our client had sought. The property division was partially agreed before final hearing, which shortened the process.
"Seven months felt long when I was in it. But I was told from the beginning it would be around that. Knowing what to expect helped."
Both Parties Abroad at Time of Initial Contact
An Australian national and her Thai former husband had agreed terms but neither was in Bangkok at the time of their initial enquiry. Both needed the process managed remotely until a joint trip to Bangkok could be arranged for the district office filing.
We completed all documentation preparation remotely via video calls and document sharing. Both parties reviewed the full documentation set in advance. We then coordinated a single Bangkok appointment day during which both were present at the district office, with all paperwork ready in advance.
The district office visit took under two hours. The divorce certificate was issued the same day. Both parties required one day in Bangkok, compared to multiple visits they would have needed without prior preparation.
"We were in different countries and only had one overlapping window in Bangkok. They made it work with one appointment."
